Broward County School Board Swears in Newly Appointed Members, Elects New Chair and Vice Chair

Two new school board leaders

On Tuesday, August 30, The School Board of Broward County, Florida welcomed four newly appointed members during a Swearing-in Ceremony at the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center: Ryan Reiter, District 1; Torey Alston, District 2; Manuel “Nandy” Serrano, District 6; and Kevin P. Tynan, Countywide At-Large, Seat 8. Governor Ron DeSantis announced the new appointments on Friday, August 26.

School Board members currently serving terms on the Broward County School Board include Sarah Leonardi, District 3; Lori Alhadeff, District 4; Daniel P. Foganholi, District 5; Nora Rupert, District 7; and Debra Hixon, Countywide At-Large, Seat 9.

Following the Swearing-in Ceremony, during a Special School Board Meeting, members of the Board voted on the selection of Chair and Vice Chair. The School Board selected Torey Alston as Chair (pictured left, top) and Lori Alhadeff as Vice Chair (picture left, bottom).

Prior to being appointed to the School Board, Alston served as a Commissioner on the Broward County Board of County Commission and was president of Indelible Solutions.

Alhadeff was elected to the School Board of Broward County, Florida in 2018. She is a former health and physical education teacher and is the president of Make Our Schools Safe, a national non-profit organization.
