Broward Education Foundation Awarded $50,000 Strategic Staffing Grant to Boost Teacher Retention and Leadership in Broward County Public Schools

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (December 3 2024) Broward Education Foundation announced that it was selected as a recipient of the Strategic Staffing and Teacher Leadership Grant, a statewide initiative led by the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations. The $50,000 grant will support innovative strategies aimed at addressing teacher retention and building career pathways for educators within Broward County Public Schools. With teacher retention and satisfaction emerging as critical challenges nationwide, this grant will enable Broward Education Foundation to collaborate with stakeholders across Broward County, guided by the expertise of the TeachAI community, to form the Broward AI Development (BrAID) team.

The BrAID team will work to develop a practical framework to provide guidance on AI understanding and use, with the goal of harnessing the power of AI to ethically and safely benefit teaching and learning. The team will be composed of representatives from across the Office of Academics, Information Technology, School Leadership, and most importantly, teachers and students within Broward County Public Schools. One primary outcome will be an AI policy framework that aligns with district’s Strategic Plan’s goals and guardrails, attending to safety, equity, school support, accountability and wellness. Along with the high-level AI policy framework, the BrAID team will review existing AI technology, especially education platforms and best practices for implementation, to develop the AI master plan for teacher and staff professional learning and implementation support. The BrAID team will provide a sustainable guidance framework that is agile and adaptable as new technology that enhances teaching and learning is developed.

“Our teachers are at the heart of everything we do, and this grant will allow us to better support their growth and success,” said James A. Knapp, president & CEO, Broward Education Foundation. “By focusing on innovative staffing strategies, we aim to create an environment where educators feel valued and equipped to thrive, ultimately benefiting our students and school communities.”

As part of the grant Broward Education Foundation and Broward County Public Schools will collaborate with other participating districts through a learning community facilitated by the Consortium. This will include sharing insights, best practices, and progress updates to ensure the project drives meaningful outcomes for teachers and students alike.
