Pine Crest Upper School Students Earn Silver Knight Awards

Pine Crest Upper School students Julia Karten ’19 and David Radvany-Roth ’19 earned Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards recently.

The purpose of the Silver Knight Awards program is to recognize outstanding students who have maintained good grades and have unselfishly applied their special knowledge and talents to contribute significant service to their schools and communities.

Julia Karten

Julia earned a Silver Knight in the Music & Dance category. She has served as a Big Buddy mentor and tutor with Achieve Miami’s Saturday Literacy Mentorship Program, helping children in third through fifth grade surpass their targeted reading levels. Last year, Julia created the Achieve Miami Summer Dance Program, a five-week dance program for children ages 6-11 at the Jesse J. McCrary Jr. Elementary School in Miami.

David Radvany-Roth

David earned a Silver Knight in the Digital & Interactive Media category. He has served as a volunteer grant writer and tutor for the Guatemalan-Maya Center since before his freshman year. He began tutoring students in math and reading, and realized they were not succeeding in school due to weak reading skills. As a solution, David created Reading Boxes, a mini-audio library that allows children to read along with audio recordings to improve their reading skills.

In addition to Julia and David, three Upper School students received honorable mentions:
Daniel Gale ’19, Athletics
Harris Gevinson ’19, Business
Isabelle Seckler ’19, Science

Congratulations!
