The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and Broward County Public Schools Partner for Student Success: TechGateway Day 2022

Students across Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) are getting a jump-start on exploring careers in local technology companies, thanks to TechGateway Day, which provides opportunities for industry leaders to visit schools to raise awareness about the high-tech, high-demand and high-paying positions available in South Florida’s technology sector.

The event, which took place on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, is a partnership between BCPS and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Broward County’s official economic development partnership.

During TechGateway Day, technology leaders visited the following schools to speak about career opportunities and pathways:

  • Microsoft, Denise Mendez – Cypress Run Education Center (Pictured)
  • LanInfoTech, Michael Goldstein – Crystal Lakes Middle School
  • SiriusXM, Christa Petros and Maria Vasilakis – Deerfield Beach High School
  • Maersk Tech, Adrianna Bailey – Hollywood Hills High School
  • Greyson Technologies, Youri Desrosiers – Attucks Middle School

To further spotlight the array of tech industries located in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, 2022 TechGateway maps were distributed by the Alliance to all BCPS middle and high schools. The Alliance continues to work closely with the BCPS Career, Technical, Adult and Community Education (CTACE) Department to provide students with opportunities to interact, and even work, with business leaders in Broward County.

TechGateway Day is part of the broader “South Florida Tech Month” in April, which includes a host of innovation-focused conferences and events stretching across South Florida, sponsored by local industries.

“FPL’s ongoing investment in TechGateway allows us to amplify our efforts across the region and beyond, continuing to raise awareness and showcase the strong, local technology sector that has placed South Florida tech on the map,'” said Ben Wesley, External Affairs Manager for FPL and TechGateway Chair.

“Wells Fargo is proud to support TechGateway. Building and branding South Florida as a technology hub contributes to the growth of businesses of all sizes, including small businesses that are the backbone of our economy and startups that power innovation,” said Erick Strati, Senior Vice President and South Florida Market Executive for Wells Fargo.

Broward County Public Schools CTACE department provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners.
