Throughout her education in the Broward County Public School system, Joceyln was blessed to have caring, knowledgeable educators who motivated her to become her best self. However, it was her fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Jones, a beautiful and classy, yet lovingly stern woman who took the extra time to impart guidance and lasting wisdom. Jocelyn recalls feeling an incredible sense of pride knowing that her teacher was holding a special meeting just for the girls, “no boys allowed”. Mrs. Jones talked about the importance of being an educated female in our society. She shared how it might be difficult and how others might try to diminish their achievements. She explained that in many countries, women are not even allowed to receive an education. This meeting changed Jocelyn’s life and made her realize she too could become a teacher.  Now a principal, Jocelyn always tries to motivate her students, especially the girls, in an attempt to instill the same sense of self-worth and self-respect.
